In the last couple of decades the practice of (re)development in the city of Atlanta has been questionable at best. By relying heavily on gentrification, Atlanta has been able to expand ang grow; appealing more and more to outside investores at the expense of long time local residents. These issies are brushed aside and covered up. This monument  represents the afformentioned cover-up: A large shroud hanging over downtown Atlanta as you pass under Memorial Dr. via Interstate 85/75.  It is to serve as a constant reminder of the issues being ignored everyday as many of the cities commuters maker their way to and from their jobs in brand new developments. 

 

There is no simple answer to gentrification, in many ways it aids the city and general health of business and people. I only propose this so that you question who/what was here before you and what was forcibly given up for you to maintain your desired lifestyle.
